Raised in Beirut, and educated in the United States, Saree Makdisi is a professor of English and comparative literature at UCLA. He has published commentaries on the Middle East that have appeared in a wide range of newspapers, including the Guardian, The Chicago Tribune, the San Francisco Chronicle, An-Nahar (Beirut) and the Los Angeles Times, where he is a frequent contributor. He has also published pieces on the Arab-Israeli conflict in The Nation and the London Review of Books.
